Endurance is not a single constraint

Cycling, road running, trail running, and triathlon differ in impact, elevation gain, technicality, and fatigue. A high cardiovascular capacity can allow one to accumulate load too quickly for the knee to tolerate well yet.

Monitoring distinguishes between overall duration and local mechanical dose.

    Increase complexity without skipping steps

For running, speed, duration, frequency, incline, and surface are adjusted separately as much as possible. Trail running adds descents, uneven terrain, and isolation.

Pain, swelling, stiffness, stride quality, and recovery are interpreted with the team, without a universal numerical rule.

    Frequently asked question

Can I use my cardio as the sole guide?

No. The cardiovascular system and knee tissues do not necessarily recover at the same rate.
